Welcome to the new magic blog…
…as opposed to Ye Olde Magick Blogge, the one I ran previously. Well, I’m running it still, and if something comes up that’s worth talking about but that’s outside sleightly.com’s mandate, I’ll probably trudge over there to talk about it.
But, for now, I’m here.
Not that this matters one way or the other, especially if you have no clue who I am. ANYHOO…
This is the blog that will chart the development of sleightly.com, a new magic-based internet directory, where you can list items freely in everything from product releases to reviews to publishers to websites to forums to societies to special events… you get the picture. Basically, the long-term goal of sleightly.com is this — if it’s got a name and it’s somehow related to magic, it’ll be listed on here somewhere. I’ll be leaving off the exposure sites (although there’s going to be a Penn and Teller exception) but everything else is fair game.
As such, if any of you guys happen to have a product or event or news item that you want to promote, please feel free to use the various categories off the directory’s main page to get there and post it. Posting of that sort is and always will be free for the life of the site.
Eventually, sleightly.com is going to be adding its own content, including news items, editorials, reviews, photos… If it’s hard-core stuff (read: magic theory, criticism, and things of that ilk), it’ll end up at YOMB, but if it’s industry-related and interesting, it’ll end up here.
So, welcome to the new place. Hope you like it.

My best wishes for the projekt.
Be sure I will follow it, like i follow your other blog.
However, one piece of critique.
Is your poll not a bit, say, overhasty ? With the Ackerman DVD set ready for preorder and the Revelation book still in the mail for most people, including yours truly, i fail to see how the poll is supposed to deliver legitimate results.
Regards,
Ha ha, I’m sure it is. For what it’s worth, I’m going to be leaving it up there for a long time, well past Ackerman’s release. By then people should have a good idea about both it and Dai Vernon’s Revelation.
That, combined with the fact that I won’t be marketing sleightly.com hardcore until the directory’s content is up, should ensure that the poll doesn’t get too far out of whack.
Andrew - congratulations on your new venture. I’m sure it’s going to be a success.
Regarding the Erdnase poll, I’m holding my vote until I’ve received both the new Vernon book and the Ackerman DVD set. While I know you’re busy you did mention sometime ago about posting your thoughts on studying Erdnase which I am anxious to read.
All the best with your new venture and I will ensure this site has a link on my blog plus will feature the site on one of my posts in the next week.
Regards,
Tony
Tony,
Thanks for the well wishes. It’s much appreciated.
Regarding Erdnase, I got close to finishing the essay and realized that while I felt I could comment without appearing ignorant on a good portion of the material, I’d need to talk to some smarter people on the subject before publishing it. Plus, the tone of it was still strongly affected by the argument over at the Cafe, and after a little time passed I decided that it needed to be rewritten from a more sober standpoint.
I’m probably going to need to get my hands on Ackerman’s set as well, just to see the stuff done. A few things in there are still a bit difficult for me to decipher — I read a passage, think “That’d never work”, I try it out, it looks lousy in my hands, and then I hear someone elsewhere say it’s very deceptive. I’m hesitant to write something off when people smarter than myself on the subject say it’s good, so I figure Ackerman’s the guy.
At least, until the Smiling Mule decides to start sharing stuff with the world again.
